Our Jungles are a MUST SEE, but Please Don’t Forget About Visiting our Fascinating Towns

We have to admit that most people who first have an idea to visit Costa Rica will learn of the thousands of butterfly varieties, the many volcanos, the coffee plantations, the beaches and the dozens of national parks which dot the entire country!

Don’t forget about the cities and towns…the hustle and bustle has a rhythm to it.  San Jose, San Isidro, all of the beach and mountain towns with so much culture, food and friendly smiles to offer you and your family.

Take some time to look at a map of Costa Rica and simply google some of the towns and cities you see on the map in front of you.

I know that you will want to make them front and center when you visit this amazing country in Central America.

Get to Living in Southern Costa Rica!

A vacation in Costa Rica such a special adventure. With more biodiversity than all of North America in an area the size of West Virginia, Costa Rica is jam packed with things to do. From the volcanos to the beaches, there is something for everyone. In the Southern Pacific Zone, you’ll find some of the most untouched rain forest left in the country. It is some of the most biodiverse landscape on the planet and offers amazing adventures for animal and nature-loving people. Take a zipline tour of the rainforest canopy with Osa Canopy Tour or go whitewater rafting on one of the 3 rivers in the area that offer good rafting. If you are into seeing monkeys and other animals, schedule a hiking tour of Corcovado National Park or in our own private rain forest reserve. Bird watchers will be blown away by the number of birds they will see in our area. The Osa area is a birding paradise and you will be able to see all of the birds, plants and animals Costa Rica has to offer.

There is also kayaking on the ocean, surfing, horseback riding, river tubing, canyoning, cultural tours of the local indigenous people, known as the Boruca Indians, and many other tours in the area to enjoy. Our goal is to help you get the most for your money while you are visiting Costa Rica. We know many of the best places in the country to visit and the lodging and tours that are the best in the area. At Osa Mountain Village, we have relationships with other resorts, boutique hotels and tour operators all over the country and can help you plan a trip that will be remembered for years to come.

A Quick Visit to a Wonderful Mountain Community in Southern Costa Rica

My boyfriend and I stayed at OSA Mountain Village for 3 nights (1 in the jungle and 2 in a villa) and thoroughly enjoyed every bit of it. Honestly, our friends who live in Uvita had suggested it, but we really didn’t know what to expect. It was more of a community than a “resort”. Everyone treated us like family right from the beginning and we felt safe and welcomed. The residents were very helpful and accommodating to the many changes we made to our reservation. We took advantage of several tours that they can book for you, including the canopy tour, Sierpe River mangrove tour and a guided hike into the jungle to spend the night. There is so much to do on your own as well, lots of jungle hiking to waterfalls, etc. One thing to note, the accommodations are nicely appointed with anything you need to cook, etc, but there is no store on the mountain. So if you don’t have a car or don’t want to make the drive down the mountain, come with some snacks or drinks to keep in your villa between meals.

If we go back to Costa Rica, we plan on exploring other areas of the country, but will probably book a couple of nights back at OSA Mountain as well, to spend time with the good friends we felt like we made while there.

Stayed November 2012, traveled as a couple

Sometimes, You Just Know. . .

I knew that I was going to be living at Osa Mountain Village long before I ever boarded my flight out of Tampa on that first visit over three years ago.  I found this community on Craigslist, did some research, grabbed a group of people and we all paid them a visit.  There was a total of 10 people; five couples.   Four of the couples invested in the community.  It was a no-brainer.

I never look back, I’ve grown in ways that words cannot convey.  I love that Costa Rica and our community is so close to the US so that I can easily fly home to see family, and likewise, they can easily come to see me.  I love that we aren’t in a touristy part of Costa Rica, but rather, the ‘real’ Costa Rica.  I can easily get to those attractions if I want, but mostly, I feel that everything I need or want is already in my own backyard.

As I write this, I’m back in Florida for a visit.  I’m thrilled to be here to see loved ones and to have the modern conveniences that the US offers, but secretly, I miss the sounds of the jungle.  The symphony of jungle sounds at night, lull me to sleep.  The sound of the nearby waterfall has become my friend, and centers me.  The Howler’s wake me each morning and I wake up with a smile.  “Where else does this occur” I think to myself.  No need for an alarm clock, ever.  Its only 5:15 in the morning but the days start earlier here…. I’ll make some coffee and sit on my deck to greet the day.

Indeed, I am blessed, , ,

Patricia Merker, Full-time Resident at Osa Mountain Village!
